I haven't watched enough anime series to be considered an otaku, but I have watched over 20. And here are my top 5. What are yours?
5) Shingeki no Kyojin / Attack on Titan
Shingeki no Kyojin has the best animation I've ever seen. The action scenes are f***ing epic, the soundtrack is brilliant, and the art work is magnificent. If, like me, you're a fan of anime series that revolve around dystopian futures, you cannot miss this one.
This series revolves around Eren Jager and his two friends Armin and Mikasa who've joined the Recon Corps to fight against the titans that are threatening to drive humanity to extinction.

4) Levi
NEGATIVES
1) Devoid of humor (I'm not complaining)
4) Code Geass
I'm not a fan of meccha anime, but I'll make an exception for Code Geass because of its intense tale and awesome anti hero, Lelouch. While I disagree with the popular opinion that clams Code Geass is Death Note with Meccha, I have to agree that there are several similarities between Lelouch and Light.
I might get a bit of hate for this, but I prefer Lelouch to Light (Team L, all the way!)

NEGATIVES
1) R2 wasn't as good as the first half. Eh, the ending is still awesome.
3) Death Note
Six months ago, this would be number one on this list. If I want to transform any of my friends into anime junkies, I make them watch Death Note. Anyone who considers themselves an anime fan has watched this show. It is one of the most popular anime series, and for good reason. An excellent plot with a good soundtrack. Its got a lot of suspense and every episode will leave you wanting more.

1) Amane Misa
2) Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
The best thing about this anime is that it has a bit of everything. Suspense, action, comedy, tragedy, and even romance. The character development, especially the character development for the bad guys, is brilliant. For example: - Envy. No other character has made me feel as many shifting emotions as Envy. I hated him, admired him, laughed at him, liked him, and pitied him.

1) Cowboy Bebop
This was the first anime series I watched and it will always be my favorite.
