Cosplay Ideas for Indian Women (with pictures)

Before I start my list I'd like to state that the color of your skin doesn't have to define your costume. You could be a brownie and still cosplay Misa Amane. This list is to provide help for women who like to cosplay characters with similar skin tone.
I've heard people complain that there are too few character choices for us brownies and this could be why cosplay culture is not very popular in India. However, recently events like Comic Con and Japan Festivals have been mushrooming all over the country. So my brown skinned lovelies, here are some ideas for your next Con!

1) Shihouin Yoruichi from Bleach

Yoruichi is the ideal cosplay choice for the novice Indian cosplayer. She's not scantily clad and her costume is rather easy. You could get it together yourself or use sites like hellocosplay.
COSTUME TIP: - For her top you could wear a full sleeved black turtleneck underneath an orange V neck sweater or t shirt. Ask any local tailor to sew on the white shoulder pads. For the bottoms, black stretch pants will do. For the hair, use a wig instead of color. Buy yellow lenses from your nearest optical store. If you live in Bangalore, colorful wigs and lenses can be purchased at Ni Hao store, churchstreet. Yes, they have a Facebook page.

2) Blue from Wolf's Rain

For short haired brown girls, the gorgeous Blue is a great choice. She's modestly dressed and you don't need to use any websites for her simple costume.
COSTUME TIP: - Trenchcoats aren't very expensive in India (not in Bangalore anyway), If you live in Bangalore, I suggest you try commercial street or Dubai Plaza on Brigade road. If you live in Bombay, go to fashion street. If you already have an old trenchcoat, cut it short, about six inches above your knees should do. Pair it with knee high boots (again very easily available) and a pink scarf. For the blue lenses, visit your nearest optical store.

3) Rose from Fullmetal Alchemist

Another ridiculously easy cosplay choice for us brownie women. Rose is brown skinned, dark haired and has dark eyes. She is indeed a blessing for brown female cosplayers everywhere!
COSTUME TIP: - For her costume all you need is a simple white dress with no sleeves. Make sure the dress is knee length. Take a pair of scissors to make the cut at the back of her dress. For the pink hair in the front, visit your nearest salon for temporary pink hair extensions. Bangaloreans, visit Ni Hao.

4) Anthy Himemiya from Revolutionary Girl Utena

Okay, if you're a brownie, especially an Indian brownie, you have GOT to cosplay Anthy. I mean, she's the most Indian anime character ever. She even wears a bindi!
COSTUME TIP:- She has different costumes. In my opinion, the easiest one is the school uniform. You'll need glasses for this, a short purple wig and blue lenses. Bangaloreans: Remember - Ni Hao (I'll post a link to their Facebook page at the end of this article).

5) Kaolla Su from Love Hina

Another chick in a Bindi! Yay!
COSTUME TIP: - Schoolgirl uniform again. Schoolgirl uniforms for both Su and Anthy are available online at Hellocosplay. They are also easily available here in India. Also, remember the most important part of your Su costume is a big, wide, happy smile!

6) Murumuru from Mirai Nikki

And yet another anime chick rocking a bindi!
COSTUME TIP: -  Murumuru's usual costume is a pink vest with white panties. For the adventurous, go ahead with that costume! For the modest ones, the above costume is perfect. You'll need purple lenses (optical store) and a long white wig. Don't forget the trumpet and the white bangle! For the costume, white pants and a black shawl are easy to acquire. You could ask the nearest tailor to stitch the top for you. Or you could modify an old blue tshirt with a pair of scissors.

The above list has characters from anime and manga only. If you're a comic book geek you could cosplay Storm, Nubia (Alternate Universe Wonder Woman), Fatality or Vixen. Disney fans, you can cosplay Princess Jasmine from Aladdin, Pocahantas, Megara from Hercules or Esmerelda from Hunchback of Notre Dame. Gamer girls, try Farah from Prince of Persia or Jade from Mortal Kombat.

Good luck!
Any other suggestions are welcome!
