Emina Reviews: Kill la Kill

From the creator of the mecha anime Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagan, Hiroyuki Imaishi, comes an action packed, comedy filled, over the top anime Kill la Kill.

PLOT

Ryuko Matoi, a young girl with an awesome weapon - half of a pair of scissors- no, really, it's very cool, sets off to Honnouji Academy in search of the other half of the scissors and the person wielding it. This person is the one responsible for her father Isshin Kurosa- I mean Isshin Matoi's death.

Well that's the plot, now for the review

AWESOME KILL LA KILL IS AWESOME! GO WATCH IT!

Kill la kill is 24 episodes of pure bad assness. The main character Ryuko is amazing. She's tough, rebellious, and doesn't beat around the bush. I fell in love with her right away. Also, she rides a bike.

Kill la Kill is one of those rare anime series where the protagonist is also my favorite character. That is not to say that the other characters are forgettable. In fact, Kill la Kill, has excellent character development for a series that is only 24 episodes long. The characters are multi layered and unpredictable. The elite four have impressive back stories that aren't cliched. Also, there is a lot of variation in the character design. Satsuki Kiryuin, the antagonist at the start of the series is every bit as interesting a Ryuko and is my second favorite character in the series. A bad ass, in her own right, she is probably the most complex character in the series. I went from hating her with a passion that almost rivaled my hatred for Geoffrey Lannister to falling intensely in love with her.

The animation is one of the best I've ever seen. It's crazy, fluid and all over the place. This injects life into the anime, a quality which most anime series lack. This crazy fluidity is best demonstrated by Ryuko's best friend Mako Mankanshoku, the liveliest character I've ever seen.

There is a lot, and I mean a LOT of fanservice in this anime.

Some viewers have a problem with this. I don't. Firstly, the fanservice is crucial to the plot of the anime. It really is! Also there is more fanservice by the males than the females.

The soundtrack is brought to you by the same dude who gave you the very awesome soundtrack for Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan).

In conclusion, Kill la Kill is a treat to watch.

All these episodes can be viewed and downloaded from nwanime.com. Both subs and dubs are available.
